How to deal with angry parents for not going uni?

I am 18 and just finishing college. I don't know what I want to so I need some time to think.

My parents are angry for not going uni in September. I told them I can apply next year if I want to but they're still not happy =/. They said since I don't know what I want to do I should have went uni. How does that make any sense? So they basically want me to do a degree that I am not sure about? How to deal with angry parents for not going uni?
i went to uni and found out i took a course that wasn't for me

i wish i'd taken a year out to work out what i really wanted

and make them see it'd be a massive waste of money and timeHow to deal with angry parents for not going uni?
Perhaps your parents would feel happier if you could give them a plan for what you hope to do in the next year or two if you don't go to Uni. It can be a disaster to go to study something you aren't interested in, especially if it is a 'vocational' subject leading to a career you don't want to follow.

However I think your parents have a point - it is only too easy to slip into doing nothing, learning nothing, earning nothing and planning for nothing and end up almost unemployable because you no longer have the enthusiasm for working at anything.

Could you take on a long term volunteering role? Why don't you go and talk to Community Service Volunteers and see if they have any projects which would interest you.

Alternatively go out and get a job, any job, it needn't lead to a career, just bring in some dosh. Go and talk to the Careers Advisory people or your careers service at college. At least sort out what sort of career you DON'T want and then see if anything springs to mind.
Maybe if your parents knew you had a plan they would feel better.

Many parents worry that their kids may live a low quality of life because of lack of education. Decades of only earning the minimum wage; never being able to have nice things or taking holidays.

You can study at anytime though. It's important that you are interested and enthusiastic about what course to do. University courses are just a lot of little acheivements put together

Sometimes the years of commitment can seem overwhelming. But each university subject sometimes only has a 2,000 word assignment and one 3-hour exam. That's not hard.
Uni costs a lot of money, so you need to be sure that you are doing something you want to do otherwise you just won't be motivated. At the end of the day its your life, just try explaining how you feel in a calm manner to them, they will realise that you are making the right decision for you soon enough.
Dude.. i too have a very angry father..i dont want you to fght wth parents, but...if you dont like to go to uni, u should never...until your mind says..and tell parents that you are old enough to think about you career and you need them only to comment, not to order things..i'm saying this because it may cause big problems in future....
